) I am privileged and happy to issue this message on the occasion of launching the Website of Moratuwa Municipal Council (www.moratuwamc.lk) in connection with the world Habitat Day commemoration to be held in Moratuwa on 6th October 2008.
The United Nations has designated the first Monday in October each year as world Habitat Day. The organization committee under the joint Chairmanship of Hon. Dinesh Gunewardena Minister of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development and Hon Fareal Ashrof Minister of Housing and Common Amenities had decided to celebrate the World Habitat Day main function in Moratuwa Municipal Area. To make it most memorable event large number of Ministries, Departments, Authorities & Boards, and NGO's. got together and implemented large number of projects for the welfare and benefit of the people of Moratuwa Municipal Council. It is an integrated development programme in Moratuwa Municipal Area which organized jointly by Ministry of Housing and Common Amenities, Ministry of UrbanDevelopment and Sacred Area development and Moratuwa Municipal Council. The Vice Chancellor University of Moratuwa Prof Malik Ranasinghe who attended the discussions chaired by Hon Ministers agreed to provide of know how through, the Department of Town & Country Planning to Several projects to be implemented in connection with World Habitat Day ceremonies at Moratuwa Municipal Council area. The most important item of those activities of the University is the designing and commissioning of the Moratuwa Municipal Council Website. Our sincere Thanks go to the Moratuwa University in general and to Planr. P.K.S. Mahanama head of Town & Country Planning Department and his young dedicated hard working team of staff members in particular. They spent lot of time with our Municipal Council staff to gather information to compile them to appropriate way of using on Website. The other noteworthy feature of this project is that the M.C. was awarded this most valuable creation free of charges by the University.
Once the Web site is launched, general public in Moratuwa Municipal Council area can get their numerous services through this without coming to the Municipality and thereby they can save a lot of time as well as traveling expenses. Municipal Council can provide more efficient service to its customers without spend money for paper advertisements. We can publish the important notices on the Website, customers inquires on various matters, their suggestions can be attended to and respond in very fast manners. Rate payers can pay their annual rates; can obtain the approval for their building plans, commercial permits, healthcare services in a very efficient manner once the things are placed in the Website project. Our invaluable customers who are living abroad can know what is happening in Moratuwa Municipal area, even promote investors in order to improve the quality of life of Moratuwa people. As I explained above very shortly the importance of this web site, it is certainly a win approach for both the Moratuwa Municipality and the customer of the Municipality.
